Update 9/30/25: Added links to a couple more Bishop Barron videos on additional topics: one on Jesus vs. Caesar and one on suffering.
Here are a few things following up on topics we discussed in Week 1:
- How is the Incarnation Extended Through Space and Time? (Advent Reflections) - Short video from Bishop Barron.
- The Eucharistic Miracles of the World - Website created by the newly-canonized teenager Carlo Acutis with links to Eucharistic miracles.
- The Eucharistic Miracles - Article by Fr Roberto Coggi, O.P. on the website above.
It gets a little technical, but tries to make the point that the flesh and blood present in Eucharistic miracles are not literally Jesus's flesh and blood, but rather signs of His flesh and blood, just like the "bread" and "wine" are after they are consecrated. In both cases, it's the *substance* that is the actual flesh and blood, and the *accidents* are what we perceive with our senses. The confusing thing thing is that in the miracles, the accidents are human flesh and blood with similarities to Jesus's (rare blood type, signs of physical suffering). But they are not part of Jesus's literal body, because then they would have been cut out of His literal glorified body in Heaven.
- Is Jesus ‘physically’ present in the Eucharist? The truth may surprise you - Article in Our Sunday Visitor explaining how Jesus's presence in the Eucharist is actually *more* than a physical one.
- The Baby King Who Takes on Caesar - This is one of my favorite episodes of the Word on Fire Show (podcast and YouTube series). Bishop Barron walks through the Christmas story showing the contrast between Jesus's kingship and Caesar's.
- Bishop Barron on Hospitalland - Bishop Barron talks about how hard it is to deal with the "passivity" of suffering, when we're not in control of anything, and how it relates to the Cross.
We only touched on suffering, and how to share in the sufferings of others, briefly toward the end of the discussion, but I expect we will return to it again before too long.
